Borderline: Arauca / Apure

oil on canvas, 30 × 24 cm, 2026
The Arauca River forms part of the border between Colombia and Venezuela. At this point, the José Antonio Páez International Bridge connects the city of Arauca with El Amparo in the state of Apure. The wider Arauca–Apure border region has long been affected by the activity and rivalry of the ELN and FARC dissident groups, whose fighting and territorial control have caused forced displacement on both sides of the border.

Rzeka Arauca wyznacza część granicy między Kolumbią a Wenezuelą. W tym miejscu most międzynarodowy José Antonio Páez łączy miasto Arauca z El Amparo w stanie Apure. Szerszy region przygraniczny Arauca–Apure od lat jest obszarem działania i rywalizacji ELN oraz dysydenckich frakcji FARC, których walki i kontrola terytorialna prowadziły do przymusowych przesiedleń po obu stronach granicy.
