The Sásabe area lies on the Mexico–United States border in the Sonoran Desert. The surrounding desert has long formed part of migration routes into southern Arizona, where extreme heat, dehydration and long distances make the crossing dangerous.

Okolice Sásabe leżą na granicy Meksyku i Stanów Zjednoczonych, na pustyni Sonora. Otaczający je pustynny teren od lat jest częścią szlaków migracyjnych prowadzących do południowej Arizony, gdzie skrajne temperatury, odwodnienie i duże odległości sprawiają, że przeprawa jest niebezpieczna.
